Kayaks Hanging on Garage Wall

Don’t leave your kayak outside to be attacked by the elements. If you have wall space in your garage you can easily hang two kayaks for less than $20 each.

This DIY kayak rack can be completed in a matter of minutes and only requires a few simple household tools.

Measure twice and cut once.

Here is a list of the supplies you will need:

Total Cost For One Kayak Rack = $18.93

*This is not a plug for Home Depot – it just happened to be the closest, easiest and cheapest way for me to get the materials.

**Tip: Make sure to get the correct Arm Hangers – Lowes sells a version that will not fit many kayaks.

Tools Needed:

  • Pencil
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Tape Measure
  • Pliers
  • Stud Finder (Optional)

How To:

Step 1: Locate and mark wall studs on both sides of the kayak seat. Recommended to come in one-quarter of the length from both ends.

Step 2: Drill pilot holes for both braces and then screw in both braces with 2.5 to 3 inch screw to studs.

Step 3: Hold bungee across kayak to determine where eye screws should be inserted into studs to ensure additional support. Mark and drill pilot holes for eye screws. Use pliers to twist in eye screws.

Step 4: Place kayak in braces and secure to wall with bungees.
